Dog Map - Towel

We love dogs and sooner or later it had to happen..the Dog Map, designed to inspire dog owners and dog lovers around the world. Here it is.

Originally created as a beach towel for humans, this awesome towel also works great for your furry friend as a dog towel or dog blanket!

It’s been a long process, from defining which dogs go on the map and which don’t, to finding the perfect illustrator (we knew we couldn’t work with our regular illustrators because this job needed a specialist who is experienced in dog illustrations) to then deciding about the information that goes on the map – in this case we kept it simple and just added the names of the breeds and no additional information.

Deciding which dog to put on the map was a tough one and we know we cannot make everyone happy but we tried our best. There will never be enough space for all dogs, especially in Europe. There are around 50 dog breeds originating in England but only 2-3 dog illustrations fit in the country. We chose the breeds that were widely acknowledged in different kennel clubs and then went by popularity but also tried to make it diverse and added dogs from all dog breed groups like companion dogs, herding dogs, hound dogs, terrier dogs, toy dogs, working dogs, sporting dogs.

We found Natalie – she is great with dog illustrations and a dog lover herself which really helped us along the way. She supported us with the research and then went on with the illustrations. We decided to not only illustrate dogs but added individual scenes with landmarks, natural landscapes around the world and tried to depict the unique characters traits of the dogs. Natalie also came up with the awesome idea to put dogs on boats when they didn’t fit on land and we absolutely love it.

The Dog Map shows over 200 dog breeds of the world. Get inspired and learn about their country of origin. Did you know that the pug is a Chinese dog? And that the Australian Shepherd originated in the United States, not Australia? Did you know that the Saluki is the oldest dog breed in the world?

You might recognize some dogs on the map. We’ve included some famous Instagram dogs like @reggie_the_boston_terrier, @boomer_the_landcloud (Samoyed), @laika.the.borzoi, @basenji_bertje and @geordilafluff.
