Little Explorers Map: the story behind
This year, 2020 marks our 10 year anniversary and that’s how the idea for this new map came to be! In 10 years, we’ve made so many maps, got lots of ideas from our awesome community and learned so much about the world. So we wanted to condense all these years into 1 awesome map, for young explorers to learn about our world.
Because everyone in the community knows their region & country best, of course we asked for their help on how they’d like us to represent it to kids everywhere! And our awesome people delivered - we got so many ideas from parents & non-parents alike, from South Africa, Chile, the UK, Greece, Malaysia and everywhere in between. An this is the result! An illustrated world map to fuel a sense of adventure in curious minds and accompany kids as a visual learning tool for their geography knowledge and map skills.
The map shows awesome animals native to every region, like the puffins of Newfoundland, Canada, jaguar in Guyana, Komodo Dragons of Indonesia, Gabon’s Black Panther, Chinese pandas, hippos of Angola and more. Through the map, kids can discover traditions and seasonal festivities around the world, like the Chinese New Year throughout Asia, Sagsai Eagle Festival in Mongolia or Midsommar Festival in Sweden. They can learn about historical figures, like Mozart in Austria or Nikolai Tesla of Serbia. They can see traditional dress & clothing from countries around the world and specifc foods or drinks, like the spices of Algeria, wine in Georgia or the lesser-known coffee ritual of Sudan.
And it doesn’t stop there! The map also shows national sporting events, like cricket in Pakistan, long-distance running in Ethiopia and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. And human-made landmarks, both historical ones, like the Taj Mahal in India, Mecca of Saudi Arabia, Azadi Tower in Iran or Grand Mosque of Mali and urban skylines, like Astana in Kazakhstan, the Shanghai skyline and Nairobi in Kenya, with Mt. Kilimanjaro overlooking in the background.
Plus, it includes a black & white coloring-in version of the map, for more hours of fun and kids to play and learn about the world at the same time.
The maps also come with a downloadable digital booklet to help you answer all your curious’ kids questions. It explains every illustration and includes every country’s flag so your little explorers can interact further with the map and learn even more about our awesome world.
The Little Explorers Map makes a great gift for kids of any age, regardless of the language they speak, because it doesn’t include any text! It guides young travelers through a world of animals, places and cultures. We made this map with one thing in mind: to spark curiosity! And we think we’ve made the best world map for kids - but we’re biased, so we’ll let you see for yourself 🙂
P.S. You’ll also receive the link to a fun quiz to keep you and your kids playing longer while learning about our world.
